Why is the Lunch Bunch?
As web-geeks ourselves, we can bet that we know your lunch routine pretty well. We’re guessing you’re one, or a combination, of the following:
- You’re self-employed and you eat a bagged lunch to save money, or because that’s what your lover made for you
- You’re self-employed and you buy an over-priced lunch and eat it alone wondering where all your money just went
- You’re employed by an agency and continually visit the same sandwich-shops with the same co-workers over and over again—not that there’s anything wrong with that
- You often skip lunch because you’re too busy, shaving pounds, and stamina, off of your waist-line.
Well, all of that is stupid.
Web-geeks need to know other web-geeks. We need to make new connections, increase our network, hear about what others are doing, and be in the right place when somebody else needs to out-source a gig… and we need to do all of that in one hour while enjoying food and a beer coke.
How is the Lunch Bunch?
The only consideration we have to make is how many people might show up at a restaurant and cause the wait-staff to say “A party of this size needs a reservation or to wait thirty minutes.”
So, to give everybody who’s interested a fair opportunity to attend without the lot of us being rejected at most locations, we’re thinking that the process will go something like this:
- If you’re interested in attending one or more lunches, tell us your email address over there ← on the left. Your email address will be added to a private group in our mail application and never shared.
- A couple of days before the next Lunch Bunch, we’ll send an email out to everybody in the group. That email will contain the lunch’s date, time, location, and maximum head-count. The maximum head-count will vary based on location.
- If you want to attend, you will REPLY ALL—notice that’s in caps, because it’s necessary—and say “I’m in” or something equally brilliant. That way, everyone in the group will receive your reply and know that the quantity of space available—the head-count—is decreasing.
Your attendance, then, is simply a result of reading your email and responding quickly. It seems to be the fairest way to do this without creating some insane member-based sign-up web application like eBay or another Amazon 3.0.
